Reformed from Roman Catholicism of the 16th century, our Protestant church follows the theology of John Calvin, who along with Martin Luther and others led the Reformation in the 1500’s. There are 5 core beliefs that came out of the Reformation. They are: Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura) – God’s People use His Word (the Holy Bible) as the standard by which to understand who God is and what His will is for our lives.
Grace Alone (Sola Gratia) – Salvation is a gift of God through faith. Our good deeds, our prayers, our piety, etc. cannot save us from eternal damnation. Only God saves us through believing in Christ’s death and resurrection. Faith Alone (Sola Fide) – We are made right with God by faith alone. Nothing else makes us right with God except our God-given faith. Glory of God Alone (Soli Deo Gloria) – We live for the glory of God and nothing else. We do not live for ourselves or anyone or anything else. We live solely for the glory of God. |
